Florida State and Florida have postponed their women’s basketball matchup, which was scheduled to be played Sunday in Tallahassee, Florida, and televised on the ACC Network, after a positive test for COVID-19 within the Gators’ program.
The schools said the decision was made after consultation with medical personnel and discussions between the administrations. The programs are hopeful of rescheduling the game later this season.
Florida has not released any further information about who tested positive, when the test was, who is affected by contact tracing or whether additional games beyond Sunday will be postponed. The Gators opened their season with a 90-47 victory over Grambling on Wednesday in Gainesville, Florida, and are scheduled to play again at home against Charleston Southern on Dec. 2.
Florida State has yet to play this season. The Seminoles’ scheduled opener Tuesday against Florida A&M was canceled when the Rattlers opted out of this season because of COVID-19 concerns.
Florida State is still seeking an opponent for a midweek game next week. Right now, the Seminoles’ next scheduled game is Dec. 6 against Austin Peay in Tallahassee.
