Barack Obama on ‘Jimmy Kimmel’: Memoir didn’t need ‘to be 700 pages’ to keep Trump from reading

  | USA TODAY

Former President Barack Obama has late-night jokes to tell on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Obama sat down with host Jimmy Kimmel to discuss his new memoir, “The Promised Land” for a show airing Thursday (ABC 11:35/10:35 Central), and Kimmel has revealed a choice interview excerpt on social media. It’s a joke at the expense of President Trump’s famously short attention span for reading.

Kimmel noted that Obama’s book is over 700 pages long, asking, “Did you make it that long to make sure Trump never reads it?”

“I don’t think it would have had to be 700 pages,” Obama replied laughing, the remainder of the joke drowned out by audience laughter.

The first volume of Obama’s presidential memoirs, “A Promised Land,” hit shelves Tuesday and sold more than 887,000 copies (including preorders) across all formats in the U.S. and Canada on its first day of release, publisher Penguin Random House announced Wednesday. It’s on track to be the best-selling presidential memoir in modern history.

Additional topics on ‘Kimmel’ will include how many copies his book has sold compared to wife Michelle Obama’s “Becoming,” and that Obama can always call in the Navy SEALs to remove President Trump from office.
